How To Volunteer

  • First Chair
First Chair began in the fall of 2005 by a small group of young, Birmingham-based professionals who were interested in promoting the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Specifically, the group is interested in generating a newer, younger audience for the ASO, recognizing that for any symphony to remain vital it must attract new ears. First Chair has banded together with the Symphony@6 concert series, helping to host and enliven the regular post-concert party and plans to host regular parties, get-togethers, mixers and more.

  • Symphony 30
Symphony 30 is a support group of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra consisting of young women from the Greater Birmingham Area. The Symphony 30 supports and promotes the activities and programs of the orchestra among the 25-to-40-year-old age group. With more than 60 members, the Symphony 30 encourages attendance to ASO concerts and programs and raises funds for the ASO's operating budget. The group meets four times a year and conducts one major fund-raising event annually. Members are encouraged to subscribe to one of the ASO's series and to attend other concerts as a group.

  • Symphony Volunteer Council
The Symphony Volunteer Council (SVC) of the Alabama Symphonic Association, Inc., with a membership of more than 300, is the largest volunteer organization supporting the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO).  The SVC’s mission is to foster, promote, and advance the goals of the ASO through fundraising, assisting with the ASO’s educational programs, providing support for the administrative staff, hosting guest artists, as well as purchasing and selling tickets.
