Why Support the ASO
Art builds community. From the concert stage of the Odeion of Perikles in ancient Greece to the Jemison Concert Hall in Birmingham, music has been an important part of our culture and civilization. Music is universal. It breaks down barriers and connects people like no other art form can.
The mission of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra is to change lives through music.
Our purpose is to deliver exhilarating performances, innovative educational programs and enriching outreach services for all citizens of Alabama, while remaining a financially stable organization. Support from donors makes it possible for the ASO to:
- Provide live orchestral music of the highest caliber for over 115,000 each year, in venues as varied as the Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall, the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center, school auditoriums, gymnasiums, churches, and community parks all across the state.
- Provide free public concerts and community outreach programs for over 20,000 area residents.
- Introduce over 10,000 school children a year to classical music through entertaining, age-appropriate Young People’s concerts.
- Collaborate with the Alabama Ballet, Birmingham Opera, the Alys Stephens Center, the Alabama Theatre, Birmingham Concert Chorale, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Summerfest Performing Arts Ensemble and others to further strengthen our local arts community.
- Bring the entire orchestra to communities all over Alabama through our State Wide Touring program.
- Impact the vitality of our state by generating indirect and direct revenue of over $17 million yearly.
As art builds community, it also takes community to build art. Birmingham has supported its Alabama Symphony Orchestra for over 70 years, helping it grow into a stable and dynamic organization. And every gifts counts. You may be the essential cornerstone in building our orchestra, our community, and our future. Please join us and send your gift today.
