Meet the Musicians

Jeffrey Solomon
Horn

Jeffrey Solomon, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, began playing his horn in junior high while living in Miami, Florida. His family transferred to Dallas, Texas while Jeff was still in junior high school, and it was there that his interest in the horn began in earnest. Jeff continued his horn studies at Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he studied with James London and Gregory Hustis. He earned his Master of Music Performance from the Juilliard School in New York where he studied with Harry Berv.

After several years of free-lancing and teaching in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Jeff won a position with The Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa, in 1989. Later that year he became the Principal horn of that orchestra and remained there until 1994. He returned to the United States in 1994 and settled in Houston, Texas where he once again became a full-time free-lancer and teacher. In 1995 he became a member of the Houston Ballet Orchestra and in 1996 joined the faculty of Houston Baptist University. Jeff joined the horn section of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 1997.

In addition to the orchestras already mentioned, Mr. Solomon has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Houston Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Ballet Orchestra, The Dallas Opera Orchestra, The Dallas Chamber Orchestra, The Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, The New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra, The Dallas Brass, and the Paragon Brass Quintet. He has performed concertos with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, and the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to his duties with the ASO, Jeff is also an Adjunct Professor of horn at Jacksonville State University.
