Roger James

Roger James
Violin

Born in Frederick, Maryland, Roger received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Northern Illinois University in 1975. He has studied with Pierre Menard, Charles Castleman, and Emmanuel Vardi.

Prior to joining the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 1985, Roger had been a member of the South Dakota Symphony, the Dakota Quartet, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has participated in the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Victoria Bach Festival. Roger is also a very active violin instructor and regularly travels to conferences dedicated to the Suzuki Talent Education method.

Roger is an avid film buff and a man of eclectic musical tastes. For two years he was a fiddler in a local Cajun band. Through that exposure, he and his wife Linda became interested in Cajun dance steps and now attend two or three dances a month. His daughter Sarah is a graduate of Reed College.
