Carey Donaldson
Trombone
A native of Georgia, Carey Donaldson is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Catholic University of America. He was a member of the United States Navel Academy Band for four years, after which he was principal trombone of the Savannah Symphony for one year. Mr. Donaldson was then appointed principal trombone of the Radio-Telefis Eireann Symphony (Dublin) from 1966 to 1969. While in Europe, he studied trombone with Denis Wick of the London Symphony.
Mr. Donaldson was principal trombone of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1990, and has been second trombonist since the reorganization in 1996. He is a founding member of the Ambassador Brass Quintet, and of the Birmingham Musica Antiqua. Mr. Donaldson was on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival for 19 years, and on the faculties of the University of Montevallo and Birmingham Southern College.
