The Alabama Symphony Orchestra is the only full-time professional orchestra in the State of Alabama.  The Orchestra is also fortunate to have an internationally renowned music director and an acclaimed symphony hall. We are continuing to foster our mission which is to be a stable organization with a dynamic commitment to delivering exhilarating musical performances, innovative educational programs and enriching musical activities for all the citizens of Alabama. Simply stated, our purpose is to change lives through music.

The organization employs 72 full-time employees including 54 full-time, professional musicians and a host of part-time employees assisting the organization in areas ranging from telemarketing to concert production.More than 500 volunteers provide strong support to the organization through various projects.

The ASO is a financially sound organization with an endowment currently valued at over $12 million. The annual operating budget is $6 million. Nationally, out of 1,200 adult orchestras in the U.S., the ASO is the 45th largest—ranking in the top 4%. Statewide, the ASO generates an economic impact of more than $16 million annually.

The ASO enjoys a committed Board of Directors comprised of 60 business and community leaders engaged with a passion for the organization’s mission and sustainability.
