Celeste Burnam

Celeste Burnam

Celeste Burnum returns to Summerfest, where she previously appeared as Mame in Mame, Anna in The King and I, and Louise in Always…Patsy Cline, a role which she has performed in regional theatres across the country and will reprise next season at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival for the third time.

Having appeared in more than 40 productions from New York to Florida to Colorado, Ms. Burnum has been fortunate to play a wide range of characters, from Vivian in Wit and "B" in Three Tall Women to the title roles in Annie Get Your Gun and Little Mary Sunshine. Among her favorite regional theatre roles are Rhetta in Pump Boys and Dinettes at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and many others, Gladys in Radio Gals at North Carolina's Southern Appalachian Theatre and TNT, and Luisa in The Fantasticks at Virginia's famed Barter Theatre. Birmingham audiences will also remember Ms. Burnum as Janis Joplin in Beehive, Jenny in Threepenny Opera, Joan in The Guys at Birmingham Festival Theatre, and Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire and Charlotte in A Little Night Music at Town and Gown.

With her one-woman shows, Celeste has helped raise money for RISE, Goodwill Industries and the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. She thanks husband, Jim Burford, the inexhaustible Summerfest family, and our patrons, without whom there would be no theatre.
