About the ASO
Letter From The President
Dear Friends,
We embark upon our inaugural season under the artistic leadership of our new Music Director, Maestro Justin Brown, with great anticipation and excitement.
Those of us who have listened to the ASO for years know how talented our orchestra is, and they reminded us of that performing with a dozen guest conductors over the two year search, culminating with Justin's selection last November. If you're a new member of our audience, the combination of musical selection, maestro and musicians will deliver classic power, detail and emotion like you've never heard before. You are in for some acoustic alchemy of a very high order.
To begin our season, Maestro Brown and the orchestra conjure the first works of Beethoven, Brahms and Bach in our flagship series,Wachovia Masterworks. Maestro Brown will conduct Masterworks performances and even perform Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 from the piano. Other highlights of this series include the Verdi Requiem and Samson et Dalila, opera in concert in collaboration with Opera Birmingham.
Just take a look at our line-up and I'm sure you'll agree that the Alabama Symphony POPS! with a great mix of popular and nostalgic classics and an exciting caliber of guest artists including Nancy Griffith, Marvin Hamlisch and Mariache Cobre.
We know you will love our other series including the Bellsouth Yellowpages Coffee Concerts, symphony@6, Red Diamond Family Concerts, Indian Springs Gateway and our new Shelby County Concert Series. ConcertMaster and Friends is even more special this season as our Music Director joins Concertmaster Daniel Szasz and other orchestra members to present an intimate chamber concert experience.
I invite you to share with me in the enjoyment of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's 2006-2007 season. I'll see you at the concert!
Sincerely,
Charlie Brown, President
Board of Directors
