Alabama Symphony Orchestra to perform in Florence, AL

BIRMINGHAM, AL, Sept. 6, 2007 - The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) teams up with the ON STAGE Concert series to present “Music from the Danube,” featuring works by Hadyn, Bartόk and Beethoven, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Norton Auditorium on the campus of the University of North Alabama in Florence.

Music Director and Principal Conductor Justin Brown leads the ASO in an exciting program
featuring the following masterworks:

            HADYN                Symphony No. 44 in E minor (Trauer-Symphonie)

                  BARTÓK             Concerto No. 3 for Piano and Orchestra     

            BEETHOVEN      Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, op. 60     

                                                                                                                       

Internationally renowned pianist, Alexander Melnikov will join for a first time appearance with the ASO on piano. Melnikov has earned a reputation as one of the finest Russian pianists of his generation. His past engagements have included performances with the Russian National Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Residente Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra
